The Active Learning Trust, a successful education trust already running 21 schools in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk, is pleased to announce its bid to open a new school in Wisbech, providing education for children from 4 through to 19 years from September 2020.
The Active Learning Trust’s plans have been developed in close discussion with Cambridgeshire County Council, meeting the immediate demand for secondary school places in Wisbech. The evidence-based bid will also satisfy the long-term need for primary school places based on regional demographic data from the local authority.
Opening in September 2020, the new school would start with a Year 7 intake of up to 120 students, and then continue to roll out year groups growing to 1,050 students in the secondary phase and sixth form.
As well as its established schools, the Trust also opened the Littleport and East Cambridgeshire Academy in 2017 , The Isle of Ely Primary Academy in 2014 and Chesterton Primary School in Cambridge in 2013, as brand new schools. The Trust has detailed its plans to open the primary phase of the new school in Wisbech in 2023/24. This initial primary intake will offer 60 places for each year group with up to 420 students overall as it grows.
Interim Chief Executive of the Active Learning Trust, Clive Bush, said: “There is an immediate need for secondary school places in Wisbech and a long-term call for primary places. With this in mind we are asking the local community to register their support for our comprehensive plans in the consultation survey.”
Mr Bush continued: “The Active Learning Trust is not the only trust bidding to develop the new school, however the Active learning Trust plans encompass not only the establishment of a secondary school, but also the longer- term issue of primary school places in the area by planning to provide an all-through school.”
The Trust, which has already established new primary and secondary schools in the region, is currently expanding provision at Cromwell Community College in Chatteris to include primary provision as the first all through school in Cambridgeshire. This is part of its proven track record of delivering significant impact on standards and outcomes for children in the region, achieving consistent progress in OfSTED ratings and academic results.
