Reydon Primary School in Southwold is celebrating achieving a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating following a recent inspection. The outcome highlights the school's continued commitment to excellence, maintaining the 'Good' rating held since the previous inspection in February 2018.
Reydon Primary school, which is part of The Active Learning Trust, has achieved this positive rating across all five key areas of Ofsted’s inspection framework, the result of the dedication and hard work of the school's staff, under the leadership of Executive Headteacher Martyn Payne.
The Ofsted report commended the school for its high academic expectations supported by ambitious and interesting curriculum plans. Inspectors praised the effective early reading program and found that teachers present information clearly and check pupils’ understanding, ensuring secure learning across the curriculum.
The inspectors also noted the school's nurturing of a "calm and purposeful" atmosphere, which inspires a sense of pride in the pupils as members of the school community. Pupils respond positively to the school’s new behaviour policy, and their good behaviour is supported by a positive rewards system. The school was also praised for its harmonious atmosphere.
Other key features of the report include the observation that pupils at Reydon Primary School enjoy learning in a welcoming environment with a strong family ethos. The school places pupils at the heart of its community and relationships are strong, notes the report. Inspectors found that robust safeguarding measures ensure pupils’ safety and well-being, with clear reporting channels for concerns. Effective support for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) was also highlighted.
Martyn Payne said, “I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our dedicated staff, our wonderful pupils, and their supportive families. This achievement is a collective effort, and I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together. Looking ahead, the inspection has provided valuable insights into areas that require further development. These will remain a priority as we continue our journey towards excellence.”
Lynsey Holzer, Chief Executive Officer of The Active Learning Trust, praised Martyn and the entire school team, along with colleagues across the Trust who contributed to the commendable rating.
