Staff and Students at Chantry Academy in Ipswich are proudly celebrating the news that they have secured another ‘Good’ rating, following a recent inspection from Ofsted.
The school, which is located on Mallard Way, Ipswich, was visited by Ofsted on the 30th April and 1st May 2024, where inspectors found the school’s overall effectiveness to be consistently ‘Good’ in all areas – a judgement which it has upheld since 2018.
The report commends Chantry Academy for its welcoming atmosphere, influential community role, and inclusive ethos. Inspectors noted high expectations for all students, including those with SEND, supported by the school's 'ready, respectful, safe' values. Students typically behave well, are polite, and feel safe, with significantly improved attendance.
Craig D'Cunha, Executive Headteacher of the school, part of The Active Learning Trust, said: “I am delighted that we continue to be rated as a ‘Good’ school by Ofsted. This grading reflects the dedication and hard work of our staff, and it celebrates the achievements of our students, who consistently embody our school values. I am particularly proud to be recognised for the influential role we play within the local community. Our students are exemplary role models and a true asset to this community.”
The tailored curriculum, particularly for students with strong attendance records, reflects the school's ambitious educational approach. The report also commended the school's prioritisation of reading, facilitated by well-trained teachers who assist struggling readers. Improvements in behaviour and attendance are evident, reflecting the collaborative efforts of staff who feel valued and supported in their work.
With support from The Active Learning Trust, the school has significantly improved attendance. Safeguarding measures and governance were also highly praised in the report.
Inspectors noted that Chantry Academy's diverse array of clubs, visits, and activities, spanning from debating and chess to sports and performing arts, significantly benefits students. The school's Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme demonstrates its commitment to enrichment opportunities.
The extracurricular offerings include extensive careers education and appropriate relationships and sex education, promoting inclusivity and tolerance among students. School and trust leaders demonstrate a keen understanding of the school's strengths and areas for development, with the local governing body effectively fulfilling its responsibilities.
Recently, Chantry Academy has seen remarkable sporting achievements, with its students emerging as prominent role models within the community.
Last month, both the girls' football squads, comprising year 7 and 8 students, achieved outstanding success in local and regional competitions, serving as inspiring figures for the local community due to their exceptional performances throughout the 2023/24 season.
Earlier this year, Year 11 student Tim Rafiu was selected for the GB Under-16 basketball training team highlighting his talent and commitment and establishing him as a role model the school and the wider community.
